Meze 99 Neo
The Meze 99 Neo is a very stylish and comfortable pair of closed-back dynamic driver headphones that have been on the market for around a few years already. Despite their age, they remain a solid choice for those who enjoy a fun and engaging sound.
Build and Comfort
Design & Materials
The Meze 99 Neo is well-designed and fully serviceable, making them a long-lasting investment
Weight:
Very lightweight at 260g, making them comfortable for extended use
Earcups:
Made of plastic but they still do not feel cheap at all. They are on the smaller side, but my ears fit well, creating a tight seal that helps with sound isolation.
Headband:
PU-Leather self-adjusting suspension system makes for an absolutely comfortable fit. It feels superior when compared to the headband from e.g. HiFiMAN Edition XS.
Clamping Force:
Medium, with no real cup swivel, but still fits nicely
Earpads:
PU-leather with medium-density memory foam, comfortable but quite small for people with very big ears
Cable:
Dual 3.5mm connectors, comes with a 1.5m cable with a remote control. The included cable transmits some slight microphonics (noise from rubbing against clothes). Be aware, not all custom cables will fit into this headphone due to the deep and slim inserted sockets.
Carrying Case:
A solid and well-made case is included, that also has a little pouch to store the cable and adapters. However, more space would be nice to store the headphones without unplugging the cable every time.
Audio Quality
Bass:
Punchy, impactful, and fun. Great for bass lovers
Midrange:
Warm and engaging, making vocals sound intimate and quite natural
Treble:
Generally smooth, but certain bright female vocals can sound slightly thin.
Detail & Resolution:
Not the most detailed headphone, but doesn’t feel lacking
Soundstage:
Good for a closed-back; not as open as open-back headphones but doesn’t feel congested.
Works well in competitive shooters like COD Black Ops 6. Good imaging and great bass impact for explosions.
Amplification
Power Requirements:
26 Ohms impedance, 103 dB sensitivity → Easy to drive on almost any source.
Gets fairly loud even from basic DAC/amps, dongle DACs, or onboard PC audio.

Conclusion
The Meze 99 Neo is a well-built, comfortable, and fun-sounding headphone with great bass and an engaging sound signature. While it’s not the most detailed or open-sounding, it performs well for its price and is a great all-rounder for music and gaming. Highly recommended for those who enjoy a bassy, warm sound signature.
